My mom underwent her treatment today with her new series of chemo. The treatment took three and half hours to administer. First they started by giving her intravenous Benadryl and Pepcid. While the dosage for this particular drug is very high the side effects are less abrasive then the first drug. Unfortunately, that does not mean she will not experience side effects. They will just be different. My mom will most likely lose any remaining hair she has left (her eyebrows and eyelashes), she may experience numbness in her extremities and sharp pains in her feet and hands, she will also lose the sensation of hot and cold in her hands. Oddly enough the Dr. also warned her she may have trouble making quick decisions. It's amazing how much of you body the chemo breaks down. Thank God for my mom's resiliency.
My mom has been battling a sinus infection all week and we were concerned she was not going to have treatment today. But she managed to not contract a fever and her white blood cells, red blood cells, and iron shot up again. Last week they dipped so low they thought a transfusion would be necessary. This week my mom's body answered the call of duty and replenished her white blood cells, red blood cells, and iron on its own.
We continue to stay positive and we are looking forward to the Race for the Cure. Please keep in mind if you want to join our team the last day to join is March 6th.
